Islanding New York: An Exhibition of Student Work

Aerial view of the island of Manhattan.

Join us for Islanding New York, a celebratory showcase highlighting student and faculty projects funded through a recent Mellon Foundation grant. This immersive event explores New York City's rich network of islands鈥攇eographical, cultural, historical, and imagined鈥攖hrough creative and academic lenses.

The program begins with a special reading by Lenape poet Rebecca Haff Lowry, whose work honors the land and voices often overlooked in our urban narratives. Throughout the showcase, you鈥檒l discover cross-disciplinary projects that reflect on islands as spaces of connection, resistance, identity, and renewal.

We鈥檒l close the afternoon with a unique boat tour鈥攁 symbolic gesture toward reclaiming and re-examining the archipelagic nature of the city we call home.

In a time marked by distance and disruption, Islanding New York reminds us of the powerful work our community continues to create鈥攖ogether and apart.
